Help with StellaX

Help with autolaunching stella using AtariGuide website .bin files

If you want to play the rom (.bin) files from the website Using Internet Explorer 5.0+, follow these simple instructions
  • Download and unzip StellaX into a new directory called c:\stella.
  • Go to the web page for the game you want to play.
  • Click on the Rom file.
  • Click "open" to open the file.
  • Ignore the warning. No one uses .bin files anymore!
  • In the "Open with" dialog, click the button that says "Other"
  • Choose the c:\stella\Stella.exe file or wherever you put it when you ignored the instruction above.
  • Check the Box which says "Always use this program to open this type of file".
  • Click "OK"
  • Now when you click .rom files on the website, the program will automatically run in StellaX.

Because of the questionable legality of distributing .rom files, the CD-Rom cannot contain the actual rom files, unlike the website. Because of this issue, the AgLinks program is required to set up a redirect from a fixed location on your computer to the location of your actual rom files and stella program.

No matter which version you use, you still have to click "Open" after clicking the link to launch the game.

    Launching ROM files automatically

Help with the CD-Rom version of AtariGuide without an Internet Connection
    or
    Using AtariGuide with Netscape

In order to make the CD-Rom version of the AtariGuide work with your downloaded ROM files and copy of StellaX, or to make the AtariGuide website work with Netscape, you have to run the AgLinks program to set up links from your C: drive to the locations of your programs. Just run it by clicking this link and follow the instructions.

The AGLinks will use about 20kb on your C: drive to create batch files that lead to your copies of the ROMs.

You will also need to get a copy of StellaX and install it. You can download it here or from the authors page.

You will also need to download the rom files for the games you want to play from the individual game pages.
