Garfield for the Atari 2600 by Atari
1983 Atari CX26132
Garfield is a popular newspaper and TV cartoon series which features a fat ginger cat that has two passions in life, sleeping and eating lasagna. He lives in a house with a dumb owner named John who has a strange looking dog named Odie who was is a little brain dead. This unreleased video game is side scrolling and was well animated, with Garfield looking exactly like the cat from the cartoon series. The object of the game is to guide Garfield along a fence avoiding flowerpots that are thrown at him and eating hamburgers as you attempt to save Nermal. In the cartoon series, Nermal is a cute furry kitten who is despised by Garfield, which leads to the question of why did he go to all the trouble of saving her in the first place?
After the fence you reached a house, which you had to cross the roof but you had to keep an eye out for Odie who was hiding within the chimney and would pop out when you drew near. After the roof you had to use a whole army of Odies to work your way from one side of the screen to the other eating burgers and avoiding the flowerpots that were being hurled at you. The last screen was slightly disappointing for you would discover Nermal hanging from the roof and all you had to do was touch her to save her. Nicely animated but a little bit basic in parts.
