The object of Death Trap is to destroy the three power generators (the third appears when the other two have been destroyed). You must fire through a three-layer shield to inflict damage to each generator. As you do, the generators will release pods that fill up the shields, preventing your missiles from getting through. Meanwhile you must avoid a constant barrage of fireballs and heat-seeking missiles that are fired at you from time to time, as well as the shields themselves, which will close in on you if you're too slow in hitting the generators.
