  • Beamrider for the Atari 2600 by Activision

    1984 Activision AZ-037-04

Beamrider is similar to the classic arcade hit, Tempest, which never quite made it to the 2600. It's essentially the same as most other space shooting games, though this one gives you a 3-D perspective. You control a ship that patrols a set of beams that project into the distance. Aliens travel up and down the beams, shooting at you. You can move from beam to beam firing at the aliens and avoiding being hit. When you have hit 15, a sentinel travels across the screen which you can destroy for bonus points. To complete your mission, you only have to defeat 99 waves of aliens.
